There are a couple of fine images in the ‘Made In Britain’ sale coming up at Sotheby’s on 13th September. Above, Building Aircraft : Making Engines by CRW Nevinson and from a 1917 series of wartime works produced by the UK government, and below, from 1920, Paul Nash’s Promenade No.1.
Now all but forgotten, EA Verpilleux was hailed as a master of the art of the woodcut in the 1910s and 20s. He produced some great images of London – most now on this blog. Here’s another: St Paul’s From Cheapside, dating from 1912.
