CRW Nevinson returned to the Thames and its barges as themes many times during his career. This charcoal and chalk drawing, The Barge, dates from around 1920.

Printing on the frozen Thames

There’s a good story here about the printers who took to the ice during the Thames Frost Fairs from the 1600-1800s to produce souvenirs printed on site for the revellers. It may be a while before anyone gets the chance to do this again.
