Maintaining the long tradition of British engineering excellence (ie. giving it a whack with a big hammer) is William Wilkes, 48, an ‘armature winder’ at London Transport’s Acton Works.
Tucking into the jam tart is Joyce Leversha, canteen attendant at Potters Bar bus garage. “Only 19, she has passed the Cooks’ Training Course, and when appointed to a vacancy she will be one of the youngest cooks in London Transport”.
